Shrimp and Sesame Toast with Lime-Cilantro Sauce

Delicious crispy shrimp paste toasts made in the air fryer, topped with sesame seeds and served with a creamy lime-cilantro sauce. A unique dim sum to recreate at home!
The most divine Cantonese appetizer you can enjoy
Hugely popular in dim sum restaurants, these shrimp toasts will be just as loved at home. Thanks to the air fryer, they’re incredibly easy to make—crispy on the outside, yet light and delicious. I love serving them with a tangy lime-cilantro dipping sauce.
Why make this recipe?
-
Crispy without deep-frying: the air fryer guarantees crunch without the extra oil.
-
Asian-inspired flavors: garlic, ginger, cilantro, and soy sauce bring classic Cantonese aromas.
-
A modern twist: a fun homemade version of a beloved Asian street food.
-
Fresh & zesty sauce: lime and cilantro add brightness that perfectly balances the flavors.

Add the shrimp, garlic, ginger, green onion, egg white, cilantro, maple syrup, and tamari to a food processor. Blend until a smooth paste forms. (Tip: This step can be made ahead and refrigerated overnight.)
Remove the crusts from the bread slices. Cut each slice in half diagonally and brush with toasted sesame oil. Spread the shrimp paste on top in an even layer, about ½ inch thick. Brush the tops lightly with beaten egg and sprinkle generously with sesame seeds.
Spray the bottom of the air fryer basket with avocado oil and add the toasts (work in batches if needed). Spray the tops with more oil and cook at 400°F (200°C) for 10 minutes, until golden and crispy.
Meanwhile, combine all sauce ingredients in a blender and mix until smooth and creamy.
Serve the hot shrimp toasts with the lime-cilantro dipping sauce on the side. SO good!
Bon appetit and enjoy!
