Lemon, Ginger, and Turmeric Tonic
The ultimate natural way to ward off a cold! Packed with Vitamin C and anti-inflammatory benefits thanks to the addition of turmeric. It also makes an excellent mocktail base!
A Concentrate of Antioxidants and Vitamins!
We all need a pick-me-up (especially in winter). This drink is a true vitality booster, combining the strength of fresh ginger, the anti-inflammatory benefits of turmeric, and a burst of Vitamin C from citrus and kiwi.
Olive oil might seem surprising in a juice, but it is the key to ensuring your body actually absorbs all the benefits of the turmeric.
Why make this recipe:
-
Natural Vitamin C Boost: thanks to the whole fruits, this tonic is an antioxidant and vitamin powerhouse. Unlike store-bought supplements, you benefit from the synergy of whole fruits to support your immune system naturally.
-
Anti-Inflammatory properties: the combo of fresh ginger and turmeric is renowned for its anti-inflammatory and digestive virtues. The addition of olive oil is strategic here: it optimizes the body’s absorption of curcumin.
-
Balanced flavors: the bright acidity of the lemons is perfectly balanced by the natural sweetness of the Fuji apple and clementine. It’s a refreshing, refined sugar-free alternative to industrial juices.
-
Make-ahead friendly: using a high-speed blender (like a Vitamix or Blendtec), you can prep a week’s supply in one go. You can even freeze it in ice cube trays for an instant morning boost!
Tips for a perfect recipe:
-
Wash your fruit thoroughly: since we’re using the whole fruit including the skin (especially for the lemons and ginger), make sure to scrub them well under water or opt for organic produce to avoid pesticide residues in your tonic.
-
The Black Pepper trick: black pepper contains piperine, which significantly boosts the body’s absorption of curcumin. Combined with olive oil, it’s the perfect ally to ensure optimal absorption and prevent your system from flushing it out too quickly!
-
Freezing for later: pour the strained tonic into an ice cube tray (silicone trays work best for easy removal). You can then simply drop a cube into still or sparkling water, or even hot water if you’re in the mood for a soothing herbal tea.
Add all ingredients into a blender (( use Blendtec or Vitamix). Blend until the texture is almost smooth (some small bits are fine).
Strain the mixture through a fine-mesh sieve (chinois) over a large bowl. Use a spoon to press down firmly, separating all the juice from the pulp.
Pour into airtight containers and store in the fridge. Serve over ice! This tonic keeps for about a week in the refrigerator.
